Rafael Devers' Batting Woes Continues

Last season, Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers slashed .272/.354/.516 with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs. Unfortunately, his start to the 2025 Major League Baseball season is like a nightmare.

Through five games, Devers is yet to get a hit out of 19 at-bats and 23 plate appearances. Worst yet, he has 15 strikeouts to lead all batters and a .174 on-base percentage. As a consolation, he has one RBI out of four walks.

His struggles have a direct effect on the Red Sox’s record, winning only one of their first five games. This slump is what the Red Sox did not envision when they signed the Dominican infielder to a ten-year, $313.5 million contract extension in 2023.

Likewise, this slump is uncharacteristic of a baseball player who has two Silver Slugger Awards and three All-Star selections. Boston hopes that one of their prized players can turn his fortunes around.
