Aaron Judge named Team USA captain for 2026 World Baseball Classic

New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge has confirmed that he will play for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. As expected, a player of his caliber will become the team captain in the United States’ quest for a second WBC title.

Judge’s commitment to Team USA should inspire other American-born Major League Baseball players to jump ship. After all, they will be playing with one of the league’s best players ever since he entered the majors in 2016. Likewise, Team USA gets a top draw as they host the WBC for the sixth time.

In addition to two American League Most Valuable Player awards, Judge is a six-time MLB All-Star and a four-time Silver Slugger awardee. In his MVP season last year, Judge led the league in wins above replacement (10.8), home runs (58), and RBIs (144). In addition to his .322 batting average, he also led all batters in on-base percentage (.458), slugging percentage (.701), and OPS (1.159).

This year, Judge is off to a solid start, slashing .357/.478/.750/1.228 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. He also leads the American League in runs (17) and total bases (42).
