Hunter Greene had a breakout 2024 Major League Baseball season, finishing with a 9-5 record and a 2.75 ERA. The right-handed pitcher from California had 169 strikeouts in 150.1 innings. The Cincinnati Reds are lucky that he’s picking up where he left off.
Through four games, Greene has a 2-1 record with a 0.98 ERA and 31 strikeouts. He leads the MLB in innings pitched (27.2) and WHIP (0.578). However, since the start of the 2024 season, he ranks third in ERA with 2.48. What’s more impressive is his 1.00 ERA since July 1.
Since the start of 2024, Green ranks first among MLB pitchers in wins above replacement (7.7), opponents’ batting average (.174), and hard-hit per swing percentage (9.6). Likewise, his average fastball velocity of 99.4 miles per hour tops all starting pitchers this season.
Green is also fourth in first pitch strike percentage (73.7) behind Dean Kramer, Logan Gilbert, and Miles Mikolas. He’s also third in in-zone percentage (59.2) behind Tarik Skubal and Bryan Woo. These numbers prove that Cincinnati’s six-year, $53 million investment in Greene is paying off.
