Jets pick up fifth-year options for Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, and Jermaine Johnson

The New York Jets are keeping some of their young talent for at least one more year after picking up the fifth-year options for their 2022 first-round picks. Therefore, cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and defensive end Jermaine Johnson will remain with the Jets at least until the 2026 season.

Gardner took the league by storm by becoming a First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl cornerback in his first two seasons. He became the first rookie cornerback since Ronnie Lott to become a First-Team All-Pro. The 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year has 181 tackles, 40 pass deflections, and three interceptions in three NFL seasons.

Meanwhile, Wilson became the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year after tallying 1,103 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The wideout from Ohio State has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in his first three NFL seasons, giving him 3,249 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Finally, Johnson became a 2023 Pro Bowler after finishing with 7.5 sacks, 55 tackles, and seven pass deflections in 17 games. The Jets remain committed to him, even if he played only two games last season due to a torn Achilles tendon.

Gardner’s fifth-year, fully-guaranteed salary will be $20.1 million while Wilson and Johnson will get $16.8 million and $13.4 million, respectively.
