Pete Alonso continues chase for Mets home run record

First baseman Pete Alonso has become a franchise cornerstone for the New York Mets since 2019. In addition to winning the National League Rookie of the Year award, he has four MLB All-Star selections. Over the years, Alonso’s hitting has been an asset for New York’s NL team.

He hasn’t gone below 34 home runs over the last four seasons and had over 100 RBIs in 2022 and 2023. However, while the 2025 MLB season has just started, Alonso is inching closer to the franchise’s all-time home run record.

In the top of the eighth inning during their latest game against the Athletics, Alonso faced a full count against Jose LeClerc. Alonso drilled the ball to left field, his fourth home run of the year, which also extended their lead to 7-4. That’s also his 230th home run with the Mets, putting him just 12 away from second-place David Wright in the all-time franchise list. Darryl Strawberry leads the Mets with 252 home runs.

Through 15 games, Alonso is slashing .321/.431/.660 with 18 RBIs. However, given the rate at which he’s hitting home runs, Alonso could break Strawberry’s record this season. He can add more to his lead, given that he’s also under contract with the Mets in 2026.
