With Derek Carr dealing with a shoulder injury, the New Orleans Saints must address their quarterback situation, and they could do so during the 2025 NFL Draft. While they are selecting ninth in the first round, they could trade up to get in a position to select Shedeur Sanders.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranked Sanders second among quarterback prospects behind Cam Ward. Before leaving the University of Colorado, he was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner.
The Saints would have a competitive offense if they get Sanders. If chosen to be the Saints’ starting quarterback, Sanders can throw the ball to wideouts Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. He can also hand off the ball to running back Alvin Kamara, who can also moonlight as a receiver. There’s also Taysom Hill, who can cover the tight end/quarterback positions.

Meanwhile, giving new head coach Kellen Moore these weapons could turn the Saints’ fate around. New Orleans haven’t reached the playoffs since 2020 and barely had winning seasons in 2021 and 2023.
