Jurickson Profar Suspended for 80 Games due to PED Use

Major League Baseball announced that the Atlanta Braves’ Jurickson Profar will undergo an 80-game suspension after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Chorionic Gonadotropin, which is deemed an illegal substance under the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension is a massive blow to his ascension as one of MLB’s top hitters. Last season, he earned a Silver Slugger Award after slashing .280/.380/.459/.839 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs. Those numbers earned him a three-year, $42 million contract with the Braves.

Profar’s suspension will last until June. Meanwhile, he went 3-15 with a walk in their 2025 opening series against the San Diego Padres. The Braves released this statement after learning of Profar’s suspension:

“We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn that Jurickson Profar tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Prevention and Treatment Program. We fully support the Program and are hopeful that Jurickson will learn from this experience.”
