The Toronto Blue Jays and All-Star infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. have agreed to a massive 14-year, $500 million contract extension. It’s the third-richest contract in MLB history after Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million deal and Juan Soto’s $765 million contract. However, unlike Ohtani’s contact, Guerrero’s extension won’t have deferred money.
This agreement ends the long-standing negotiations between the two parties, wherein Guerrero might have left as a free agent after this season. Before this long-term extension, Guerrero signed a one-year, $28.5 million contract with the Blue Jays to avoid arbitration.
Guerrero Jr. started playing for the Blue Jays in 2019 when he was 20 years old. Since then, he has become a four-time Major League Baseball All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and a one-time Gold Glove recipient. He is slashing .287/.362/.498 for his career, ten games into the 2025 season. Last year, he went .323/.396/.544 with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs.
Guerrero’s new contract will keep him with the Blue Jays until 2039, when he turns 40. Therefore, it’s safe to say that he will play his entire MLB career for Toronto.
