Third baseman Cam Smith was a top prospect who was part of the trade that sent Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs. However, after what he showed during a Spring Training game, the Houston Astros might have found another hitting gem.
Smith connected on two home runs in their game against the New York Mets. His first homer came against Austin Warren in the bottom of the sixth inning. With his friends and family watching, the Florida native sent the ball over the right field fence to extend Houston’s lead 6-4.
Meanwhile, his second home run was against Connor Overton at the bottom of the eighth. The ball landed over the right-center field fence to double the Astros’ lead 8-4. Houston won the game 8-5, with Smith also contributing three RBIs.

The Cubs selected Smith 14th overall in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft. However, he played out the year in Single-A, High-A, and Double-A Baseball. Smith finished the season at .313/.396/.609 with seven home runs, two stolen bases, and 24 RBIs.
In addition to Smith, the Astros welcomed Isaac Paredes and Hayden Wesneski after the Tucker trade.
