It’s a long season, but as of right now, the 49ers sure look like Super Bowl contenders. They might have the league’s best defense, and their offense is good enough that it didn’t miss Brandon Aiyuk at all on Thursday night.   more »

Purdy solid in return to preseason action

San Francisco 49ers quarterback BROCK PURDY hadn’t played in a game since tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow during the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in theMore NFC Championship Game. Purdy returned to action in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Kyle Shanahan had great praise for Purdy afterward, saying that “he did real good, all the plays that he had he made and I don’t think he had a bad one”. Take note, fantasy owners. Less

Around the NFL: Brock Purdy

If a report coming out of the San Francisco area is to be believed, Brock Purdy will probably be starting for the 49ers in Week 1. That could be enough to get him in the conversation to be selected as a second quarterback in typical leagues.   more »

Factoid: Rookie QBs

There are some who believe experience is a key with rookie quarterbacks. Bill Parcells, for one, in his day preferred to draft prospects who had started at least 30 games in college. A pair of Parcells-type prospects were the most notable rookie quarterbacks last year, with Kenny Pickett and Brock Purdy both completing over 900 passes before they were drafted.   more »

49ers QB Lance down to third on depth chart?

ESPN NLF reporter Adam Schefter said earlier this week that San Francisco 49ers quarterback TREY LANCE could be down to third string on the team’s depth chart heading into the upcomingMore season. While Schefter acknowledged that Lance could have a productive camp after putting in significant offseason work, he also noted that there was no trade market for Lance. He also said it was significant that the 49ers acquired fellow quarterback SAM DARNOLD on the first day of free agency, adding that the team “really liked that guy”. If fully healthy, BROCK PURDY is expected to the San Francisco’s starting quarterback. Less

Factoid: Late-round quarterbacks

When looking at incoming rookie quarterbacks, we tend to focus on the early picks -- the first-rounders, and occasionally the seconds or thirds. If a player has much hope of being a quality starter, NFL teams wouldn't let them fall any further, the theory goes. But then a Brock Purdy (pictured) comes along.   more »

49ers QB Purdy throws, GM Lynch “incredibly encouraged”

San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch said this week that he was “incredibly encouraged” after watching quarterback BROCK PURDY during his first throwing session last week. Since undergoing surgery toMore repair his injured right elbow, Purdy has seemingly passed every checkpoint with flying colors as he looks to be ready to start the 2023 season. Lynch added that the 49ers hope remains for Purdy to be ready for training camp and the regular season. Stay tuned, fantasy owners. Less

49ers QB Lance has been 100 percent healthy since March

San Francisco 49ers quarterback TREY LANCE said recently that he has continued to rehab his fractured ankle and that he finally started to feel better in March. Lance added that byMore the end of March he “was 100 percent” after originally suffering the injury in the second week of the 2022 season. With fellow quarterback BROCK PURDY still recovering from his own injury, the news that Lance has returned to full health is encouraging for the 49ers and fantasy owners. San Francisco also has veteran SAM DARNOLD on the roster for 2023, but fantasy owners have likely learned by now Darnold is someone that can’t be counted on for much beyond clipboard duty. Less

49ers QB Lance makes “substantial” offseason jump

San Francisco 49ers quarterback TREY LANCE has reportedly spent the offseason reworking his throwing motion and spending time working with star quarterback PATRICK MAHOMES. Lance’s private quarterbacks coach Jeff Christensen saidMore recently that Lance “just kept getting better” over the offseason, adding that the young signal caller made a “substantial jump”. The 49ers quarterback room will be one to watch this offseason, with Lance’s supposed development, BROCK PURDY working his way back from injury, and SAM DARNOLD somehow still hanging around. Less

Around the NFL: Sam Darnold

There's some crazy talk going around involving 49ers quarterbacks. With last year's late-season starter Brock Purdy having undergone elbow surgery and former top-3 draft pick Trey Lance having not been healthy himself, we're supposed to believe that Sam Darnold might start for the team this year. It's best dismissed.   more »

49ers expect QB Purdy back by training camp

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said this week that he expects second-year quarterback BROCK PURDY back in time for training camp, which begins at the end of July. WhileMore this has always been the hope and a best-case scenario, most did not expect Purdy to be fully cleared until sometime in late August. Purdy, of course, suffered a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow in the NFC Championship Game and underwent surgery to repair the injury in early March. Until Purdy returns, TREY LANCE and SAM DARNOLD will take offseason reps during practices. One of the two could start the season opener if Purdy isn’t ready to go. Less

Purdy effect responsible for QB popularity in 2023 NFL Draft?

14 quarterbacks were selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, well beyond last year’s total of nine signal callers. There were also 12 quarterbacks selected within the first five rounds, setting aMore draft record for most quarterbacks taken in that span. An emerging theory for the record-setting run has been labeled “The Purdy Effect” and references the success of San Francisco quarterback BROCK PURDY. Purdy was taken with the last pick in last year’s NFL Draft, known as “Mr. Irrelevant”, and helped lead the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game. Less

49ers receiving calls about QB Lance

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly fielded calls regarding former third overall pick TREY LANCE. Several teams are believed to be looking into a potential trade for the 49ers young signalMore caller. It’s also worth noting that the conversations about Lance have resulted from San Francisco taking calls and not making calls. With former seventh-round pick BROCK PURDY in line for the starting gig this season, it makes sense that teams are inquiring about Lance’s availability. Purdy, however, is recovering from an elbow surgery that could make trading Lance a risky proposition. Less
