Factoid: James White

Alvin Kamara caught 11 passes for 96 yards against the Rams on Sunday, and I would think that would get the attention of New England’s coaches. They’ve got a running back who can create a lot of the same kind of mismatches in the passing game.   more »

Around the NFL: New England running backs

What are realistic expectations for Sony Michel? He’s super talented, and he’s going to what’s been the league’s dominant team for the last 17 years. The way he ripped off chunks of yards in his final two games last year (against Oklahoma and Alabama) it’s reasonable to wonder if he might have a top-10 season in him.   more »

The New England Patriots retained running back REX BURKHEAD, who signed a three-year contract to remain with the team. With DION LEWIS leaving via free-agency, Burkhead has a chance for aMore significant fantasy role in 2018. JAMES WHITE, MIKE GILLISLEE and BRANDON BOLDEN also remain under contract but Burkhead seems to be a notch above those guys. Less

Patriots’ backfield to take off vs. Titans?

The Tennessee Titans struggle against pass-catching running backs, which could mean trouble against the New England trio of DION LEWIS, REX BURKHEAD, and JAMES WHITE. White has been dealing with anMore ankle injury but insists he is ready to go. Burkhead is less certain due to a knee injury but if he’s able to play he could present another challenge. Lewis will be in the mix as well, likely leading the way. Less

Gillislee, Burkhead out vs. Jets

Gillislee auditions for goal-line role

Patriots running back MIKE GILLISLEE wants to be New England’s goal-line back this season. His first two opportunities in practice over the weekend resulted in him powering into the end zoneMore for touchdowns. Other backs on the roster are more finesse-type backs, including JAMES WHITE, DION LEWIS, and newly acquired REX BURKHEAD. Given his skill set and opening audition, it looks like Gillislee could be in line for a big fantasy season in 2017 in a goal-line role. Less
