Around the NFL: Baltimore running backs
There was a big kerfuffle on Twitter yesterday, in which J.K. Dobbins (pictured) called out NFL.com's Ian Rapoport for suggesting he might not be ready for Week 1 while returning from an ACL injury. It highlighted the good and bad of Twitter: the bad is that anyone can say anything, the good is that sometimes the famous person will set the record straight. more »

Ravens sign veteran RB Davis
The Baltimore Ravens signed veteran running back MIKE DAVIS to a one-year deal worth just over $1.2 million dollars for the upcoming season. The move adds depth to a Ravens backfield… More that saw three running backs go down with season-ending injuries last year before the 2021 season began. If running backs J.K. DOBBINS and GUS EDWARDS miss any time in 2022 as they continue to recover from their injuries, Davis could be expected to get a heavy workload early in the season. Less

Falcons sign free agent Patterson, cut RB Smith
The Atlanta Falcons signed kick returner CORDARRELLE PATTERSON on Thursday and the team is planning to have him play at the running back position. Patterson was drafted in 2013 as a… More wide receiver, but the versatile veteran has made his mark on special teams. Running back ITO SMITH finished last season atop the depth chart but was released by the Falcons on Thursday. Atlanta has not re-signed TODD GURLEY, last season’s starter, or backup BRIAN HILL. The Falcons did add MIKE DAVIS earlier this offseason from the Carolina Panthers, and he appears to be the likely starter heading into the 2021 season. Less

Falcons sign former Panthers RB Davis
The Atlanta Falcons signed free agent running back MIKE DAVIS to a two-year contract this week. Davis, 28, is a former fourth-round draft pick from the 2015 NFL Draft. He is… More coming his best season in the league, having filled in nicely for much of the year when Carolina Panthers star running back CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY suffered through an injury plagued campaign. Around the NFL: Mike Davis
When we talk about the difficulty running backs have getting paid in today's NFL, we often look at the big names; the LeVeon Bell types who have to patiently take a beating for years before finally cashing in (if they're lucky). But there are plenty of smaller names who seldom get paid, or appreciated. Like journeyman Mike Davis. more »

Ian Allan: Backup running backs
It hasn’t been a good year for backup running backs. That’s a position that I always put a priority on in drafts, trying to latch onto players who are an injury away from being valuable fantasy assets. But most of those guys missed this season. more »
