Scheduletron: Falcons rising?

Post draft, we can start identifying some of the teams and offenses that we feel will outperform expectations. The Falcons, I think, look like one of them. They’ve been loading up on talent, and they’re in the right division in the right conference.   more »

Factoid: 50-yard field goals

A trio of kickers banged in a bunch of long field goals last year. But is that an indication those kickers are more likely to also excel in that area in the upcoming season? Or is it more likely that such production is heavily influenced by luck/chance?  more »

Factoid: Up-and-coming kickers

The four highest-scoring kickers were all lightly regarded prospects entering the season. I don’t think Daniel Carlson, Jason Sanders, Younghoe Koo or Tyler Bass were selected among the first 10 kickers in the vast majority of drafts. (If we set aside Koo, who had a good half-season in 2019, I don’t think any of the others were chosen in the top 15).  more »

Around the NFL: Jason Sanders

The Dolphins have agreed on an extension with Jason Sanders, making him the game’s highest-paid kicker. It’s not surprising. Entering his fourth year, he’s emerged as one of the best players at his position.  more »

Fantasy News: Second-half kickers

A pair of kickers put up huge numbers in the second half of the season – Tyler Bass and Greg Zuerlein both averaged over 10 points in their final eight games. Should we take that as a sign that these kickers are likely to rank in the top 10 in 2021? Or is this more likely a case of outlier production in a small sample size?   more »

Injured Falcons take a step backwards

After participating in a limited practice on Wednesday, Atlanta Falcons WR JULIO JONES (hamstring), RB TODD GURLEY (knee), and TE HAYDEN HURST (ankle) did not participate at all in Thursday’s practiceMore session. On a brighter note, WR CALVIN RIDLEY logged another limited practice and kicker YOUNGHOE KOO was upgraded to a full participant in Thursday’s practice. Less

Factoid: Kickers on bad teams

I struggle with how to project Younghoe Koo each week. Traditionally it’s not a good idea to count on good production from a kicker on a bad team. Yet, he keeps knocking in the field goals, week after week.  more »

Factoid: Younghoe Koo

Another big game for Younghoe Koo today. When the Falcons signed him halfway through last season (as a replacement for struggling Matt Bryant) I don’t think anyone realized how good he was going to be.  more »

Kicking competition coming to Atlanta

Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn said on Tuesday that the Falcons plan to add another kicker to compete with incumbent kicker YOUNGHOE KOO. Falcons cut veteran kicker Bryant

The Atlanta Falcons released veteran kicker MATT BRYANT on Tuesday. The team signed YOUNGHOE KOO to replace him. Koo last kicked in the NFL for the Chargers in 2017. Bryant isMore the team’s all-time points leader, but he made just 9 of 14 field-goal attempts this season. Bryant, 44, missed two of his four kicks in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Less
