Mike Gesicki has had a modest season for the Dolphins, but he looks a player who should rebound in 2023. He’ll almost certainly be on a new team, and I expect that team will make him a bigger part of their passing game.
Gesicki has really good hands, and with his height can create matchup problems around the end zone. While the Dolphins haven’t had much interest in using him extensively, I expect his next team will.
Miami used its franchise tag on Gesicki back in March. He smartly immediately signed it (before the offer could be withdrawn). But the two sides never agreed on an extension, so Gesicki will be a free agent again next spring.
If we’re in a dynasty league (with teams allowed to keep players forever) I would think Gesicki would grade out pretty similarly to players like Dalton Schultz, David Njoku, George Kittle, Dawson Knox and Darren Waller. Things will be up in the air for a few months, but I think Gesicki will emerge as a starting, featured tight end somewhere.
Each Saturday I turn my attention to dynasty leagues, rotating between the four notable positions. I hit running backs last week, and I’ll be moving on to wide receivers and quarterbacks in the next two installments.
To see the most recent rankings at the other positions, use the “past issues” navigation box on this page.
Rankings assume a 12-team league using PPR scoring, with each team probably carrying about three tight ends (and holding the rights to those players indefinitely). Rookies tagged with black dots.
In this style of league, I’m looking at where players rank right now, and trying to factor what they’ll be doing in the next few years. Travis Kelce, for example, is the best tight end right now, but with him being 33 years old, I’ve got him slotted behind Mark Andrews and Kyle Pitts. Those players are 6 and 11 years younger.
