The Minnesota Vikings have signed All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a one-year deal worth $10 million. The agreement includes $7 million in guaranteed money, as confirmed by Gilmore’s agent, Sportstar’s Jason Chayut.
The Vikings will be his sixth NFL team in 13 seasons. He played for the Dallas Cowboys last season and finished with a career-high 68 tackles, 13 passes defended, and two interceptions. The defensive back from South Carolina started his career with the Buffalo Bills, the team that selected him tenth overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.
After five seasons in Buffalo, he signed a five-year, $65 million contract with the New England Patriots. In Foxborough, Gilmore became one of the league’s best cornerbacks, earning two First-Team All-Pro and four of his five Pro Bowl selections. He also led the league with six interceptions in 2019, the year he won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Before playing for the Cowboys, Gilmore had one-year stints with the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts. The Vikings have a great need at cornerback after Mekhi Blackmon suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury last July. Worst yet, rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson passed away in a car crash last month.
Gilmore will join a cornerback rotation featuring Shaquill Griffin, Akayleb Evans, and Fabian Moreau. Minnesota will open its 2024 campaign on the road against the New York Giants on September 8.
