Elite Running Backs Doing Well For Their New Teams

While the competition in the National Football League has been largely pass-happy, some running backs have enjoyed massive success in the 2024 NFL season. Coincidentally, despite their lofty status, three of them have switched teams.

Josh Jacobs had his best game for the Green Bay Packers in Week 12 against the San Francisco 49ers, tallying 106 yards and three touchdowns. In 11 games, Jacobs has 202 carries for 944 yards and seven touchdowns.

He’s on track to breach the 1,000-yard mark in his first season with Green Bay after spending the first five seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. Jacobs is a two-time Pro Bowler and a one-time All-Pro when he led the league in rushing yards (1,653) in 2022.

Meanwhile, Derrick Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens after spending eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Through 12 games, the former NFL Offensive Player of the Year had 221 carries for 1,325 yards and 13 touchdowns. Henry had 140 rushing yards in the Ravens’ Week 12 Monday Night Football victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Henry has had four Pro Bowl and two All-Pro selections throughout his career. He’s also among only eight running backs in NFL history to have 2,000 rushing yards in a season. The imposing running back did it when he tallied 2,027 yards in 2020.

Finally, Saquon Barkley signed with his former team’s division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. The two-time Pro Bowler established a single-game franchise record of 255 rushing yards against the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley scored two touchdowns and added 47 receiving yards.

The running back from Penn State has been on a tear lately, finishing with at least 108 rushing yards in five of his last six games. He’s the frontrunner for this season’s Offensive Player of the Year and a solid Most Valuable Player award candidate after accumulating 1,392 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games.
