Raiders sign RB Williams to add backfield depth

The Las Vegas Raiders are adding running back depth by signing veteran rusher DAMIEN WILLIAMS. With JOSH JACOBS still holding out, Williams will join fellow running backs ZAMIR WHITE and AMEERMore ABDULLAH on the roster. Williams, 31, played in just one game last season with the Atlanta Falcons while spending most of his time on injured reserve before being released in December. Fantasy owners may recall that Williams had a big postseason and Super Bowl for Kansas City following the 2019 campaign. Less

Bears RB Williams remains on Covid list

Chicago Bears running back DAMIEN WILLIAMS still has not been cleared from the reserve/Covid-19 list, with the earliest opportunity for him to do so coming on Saturday. If Williams is clearedMore on Saturday, it remains likely that rookie running back KHALIL HERBERT will continue to be involved in the backfield. It’s worth noting that whoever is in the Bears backfield this weekend, they will be up against the best run defense in the NFL in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Less

Bears RB Montgomery out until November

Chicago Bears running back DAVID MONTGOMERY is expected to miss four to five weeks with a sprained left knee suffered in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. While Montgomery’s injury isMore not season-ending, his upcoming month-long absence is a blow to a Bears offense that has struggled against every team other than the Detroit Lions. Around the NFL: Month for Monty

David Montgomery left Chicago's last game with a knee injury. Initial reports were that it wasn't believed to be an ACL injury, and those proved correct. That's the good news. But Montgomery is expected to miss the next 4-5 weeks with a knee sprain, elevating Damien Williams into the starting lineup.   more »

Around the NFL: David Montgomery

Is David Montgomery underrated? I think so. Early ADP data suggests he's about the 20th running back off the board, and that's where he showed up in our Experts Poll, as well. I fully understand the concerns, but based on last year -- for what it's worth -- he should probably be anywhere from 5-8 spots higher.   more »

Bears sign former Super Bowl hero

The Chicago Bears are signing running back DAMIEN WILLIAMS to provide a high-potential weapon as a rusher and receiver in 2021. Williams opted out of the 2020 season to care forMore his mother, who is battling cancer. The last time he was on the gridiron, Williams delivered a two-touchdown, 133-yard performance to help Kansas City win Super Bowl LIV. Williams’ arrival likely means the Bears will be moving on from multi-purpose threat CORDARRELLE PATTERSON. Less

Kansas City GM says RB Edwards-Helaire headed for big year

Kansas City GM Brett Veach said recently that rookie running back CLYDE EDWARDS-HELAIRE is on pace to have a big year as the team’s primary ballcarrier. Edwards-Helaire has been perhaps theMore most talked-about player in the NFL since GARDNER MINSHEW and his mustache arrived on the scene last season. With fellow running back DAMIEN WILLIAMS deciding to opt out of the 2020 season, the sky appears to be the limit for Edwards-Helaire. Less

Around the NFL: Damien Williams opts out

For most of the offseason, I have wondered whether Damien Williams might wind up being Kansas City’s most productive running back. They selected Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round, but Williams has the considerable advantage of having been around for a few years. But toss that out of the window now; Williams has opted out of the 2020 season.   more »
