Patriots’ backfield to take off vs. Titans?
The Tennessee Titans struggle against pass-catching running backs, which could mean trouble against the New England trio of DION LEWIS, REX BURKHEAD, and JAMES WHITE. White has been dealing with an… More ankle injury but insists he is ready to go. Burkhead is less certain due to a knee injury but if he’s able to play he could present another challenge. Lewis will be in the mix as well, likely leading the way. Less

Gillislee, Burkhead out vs. Jets
New England running backs MIKE GILLISLEE and REX BURKHEAD have both been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. With fellow running back JAMES WHITE questionable, the only sure bets against the Jets will be DION LEWIS and BRANDON BOLDEN. Fantasy owners take note.

Gillislee auditions for goal-line role
Patriots running back MIKE GILLISLEE wants to be New England’s goal-line back this season. His first two opportunities in practice over the weekend resulted in him powering into the end zone… More for touchdowns. Other backs on the roster are more finesse-type backs, including JAMES WHITE, DION LEWIS, and newly acquired REX BURKHEAD. Given his skill set and opening audition, it looks like Gillislee could be in line for a big fantasy season in 2017 in a goal-line role. Less

Fantasy Index Weekly: Patriots preview
I’m not ready yet to say the Patriots will win. Atlanta has the ability to trade punches with anybody (I’ll take a closer look at the Falcons tomorrow). But New England’s offense sure looks good. It should pile up plenty of yards and points in what should be one of the higher scoring Super Bowls. The over-under is set at 59 points, a total that’s been reached only three times in the last 20 years. more »
Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Defenses
Defenses often win championships, but there are no elite defenses left in the NFL playoffs. No elite fantasy defenses, either, which make it a week to allot the smallest portion of one's budget, or a lower draft pick, to select one. more »
Fantasy Index Weekly: New England Patriots
New England’s offense probably will score 3-4 TDs, and just 3 TDs looks more likely. Pittsburgh’s defense has been playing pretty well. It’s allowed only 19 TDs in its last 10 meaningful game. Only two opponents in there scored more than 2 TDs (the Cowboys, and at Buffalo). The Patriots have a great offense, of course, but they’re going without Rob Gronkowski, who’s caused major problems for the Steelers in the past (including two games with 3 TD catches). more »
Andy Richardson: A Weekend of Football
So I didn't call every game right, but in picking the Falcons and Steelers, and theorizing that Dallas would fall behind and not run the ball enough, I was close. Just like the Cowboys. At the end of the weekend we do at least have two very compelling championship game matchups -- perhaps the best we could have hoped for just eight days ago. First the recaps. more »

Around the NFL: NFL playoffs
Patriots didn’t have too much trouble with Houston, which wasn’t a surprise. They beat them 27-0 in the regular season, and the playoff game was only nominally more competitive. The Texans played better and got three turnovers, causing the game to extend into the fourth quarter. more »

Around the NFL: New England Patriots
LeGarrette Blount isn’t practicing today. He’s ill. He also didn’t practice yesterday. With the Patriots kicking off in two days, it’s looking likely that Blount won’t be used in a heavy-duty role. more »
