Falcons select first WR of 2022 NFL Draft

The Atlanta Falcons used the eighth overall pick in last night’s NFL Draft to select the first wide receiver of the evening in USC wideout DRAKE LONDON. London will pair withMore last year’s fourth overall choice, tight end KYLE PITTS, and provide another weapon for veteran quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA. The Falcons needed a top wide receiver after losing CALVIN RIDLEY to a suspension for the entire 2022 season. Less

Factoid: Marcus Mariota

It’s looking like Marcus Mariota will be starting for the Falcons. I don’t think they’re going to force a top-10 pick on a lesser quarterback; it would make more sense to select building-block player, then select a quarterback next year, when the top prospects should be more appealing.)   more »

Falcons sign TE Firkser to one-year deal

The Atlanta Falcons announced this week that the team has signed tight end ANTHONY FIRKSER to a one-year contract. Firkser spent the past four seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where heMore played with new Falcons quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA. While it’s nice that the duo will have a level of familiarity, fantasy owners need look no further than second-year tight end KYLE PITTS in the Falcons TE room. Less

Falcons add Mariota to replace Ryan

On the same day that the Atlanta Falcons traded quarterback MATT RYAN to the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced that it had agreed to term with quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA on aMore two-year contract. Mariota, 28, was originally the second overall pick of the Tennessee Titans back in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent last season in a backup and change-of-pace role with the Las Vegas Raiders, but he takes over the starting job in Atlanta heading into the 2022 season. Less

Around the NFL: Marcus Mariota

The Falcons shipped off Matt Ryan to the Colts, and brought in Marcus Mariota immediately after. He'll be their starting quarterback, operating an offense that doesn't appear to have any viable wide receivers. It does have Kyle Pitts, however.   more »

Andy Richardson: Deep Dynasty Adds

Every other Monday -- more frequently if there's stuff going on, less frequently if there isn't -- I plan to run some dynasty content in this space, looking at players who may not necessarily put up big numbers in 2022, but might have long-term value in dynasty leagues. I'll start with a trip though my own dynasty league's waiver wire.   more »

Raiders QB Mariota to miss multiple weeks

Las Vegas Raiders backup quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA is expected to miss multiple weeks after aggravating a quadriceps injury in Monday’s season opener against Baltimore. Mariota played one snap and ran forMore 31 yards before the injury. The Raiders had hoped to incorporate him regularly into the offense this season, but that plan is now on hold. For curious fantasy owners, NATHAN PETERMAN will now move up into the backup quarterback role for the Raiders. Less

Mariota to take pay cut, remain with Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders backup quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA is reportedly set to take a pay cut and will remain with the team heading into the 2021 season. Mariota was scheduled to makeMore $10.7 million this year but, after the cut, his new salary will be closer to $3.5 million. Mariota can make up to $8 million if he hits certain incentives, although such a salary is unlikely given his backup status. Less

Mariota trade market suddenly dries up

Last week, Las Vegas Raiders backup quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA seemed like a strong candidate to be the next signal-caller on the move. This week, the trade market for Mariota appears toMore have “dried up significantly” according to the NFL Network. While Mariota’s base contract of just over $10 million per year is reasonable, his deal also has incentives that could add an additional $12 million per year. If no team is willing to take on Mariota’s incentive laden contract, the Raiders could be forced to release him due to their current salary cap woes. Less

Teams interested in Raiders backup QB Mariota

Los Angeles Raiders backup quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA is reportedly drawing interest from various quarterback-needy teams. While trade rumors previously centered around Raiders starting quarterback DEREK CARR, it appears as though MariotaMore is the one drawing more interest. The 27-year-old Mariota played in only one game for the Raiders in 2020, but he looked excellent in relief of an injured Carr. Mariota, of course, was the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Around the NFL: Marcus Mariota

The Raiders are apparently considering an upgrade at quarterback. One report indicates that either Derek Carr or Marcus Mariota is available, though Las Vegas would prefer to trade Mariota. It makes sense, with him being the backup all season, and Carr having a credible year in the starting lineup until the team faded late. Should Mariota be traded, those in fantasy leagues shouldn't dismiss the possibility of him being fantasy relevant.   more »

Around the NFL: Marcus Mariota

Oakland signed Marcus Mariota yesterday, to a two-year deal worth over $17 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed in 2020. Make no mistake: this is backup quarterback money. The only starting quarterbacks who will make less than him this season are on their rookie deals. But it does present competition for Derek Carr.   more »
