Nico Collins (calf) is practicing, and I’d be inclined to use him. The Browns have the league’s No. 1 pass defense, but they haven’t been nearly as good on the road. more »

Dynasty Leagues: Long-term quarterbacks
I think we’re at the point where it’s fair to conclude Carolina made a mistake in selecting Bryce Young No. 1 overall. Not that I’m writing him off after four pro starts, but both C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson both look a lot better. more »

Factoid: C.J. Stroud
With C.J. Stroud, I have been impressed the most by his ability to get the ball downfield. He’s not settling for underneath throws, looking to get the ball out of his hands. He’s launching deeper throws that inflict damage, and he’s connecting on them. more »

Factoid: Rookie QBs
Three quarterbacks were picked with the first four picks of the draft, and they’re all starting on opening day. That gets my attention, with the potential for more sacks and turnovers. more »

Texans make it official, name Stroud as starting quarterback
Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans officially named rookie signal caller C.J. STROUD as the team’s starting quarterback to begin the 2023 season. Stroud, the second overall draft pick in April’s… More NFL Draft, gets the starting nod over fellow quarterback DAVIS MILLS. Both Stroud and Mills began training camp splitting first team reps before Stroud eventually took over all first team reps heading into the three preseason games and joint practices against the Miami Dolphins. Stroud and the Texans open the regular season on September 10th against the Baltimore Ravens. Less

Factoid: Aidan O'Connell
At what point is it fair to wonder if Aidan O’Connell might be better than some of the three quarterbacks picked in the first round? He passed for more yards and touchdowns in the preseason than all of them combined. more »

Texans QB Stroud shows improvement in second preseason start
Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. STROUD, the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, showed improvement in his second preseason start on Saturday afternoon. Stroud, who has not yet been… More named the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, played the entire first half and finished 7-of-12 passing for 60 yards in four drives. His performance was an improvement on his preseason debut, when Stroud played just two series, completed two passes, threw an interception, and took a sack. Baby steps, fantasy owners. Less

Factoid: Aidan O'Connell
Draftniks plan, and God laughs. Quarterbacks were selected with three of the first four picks in the draft, but the Raiders found a guy in the fourth round who was a lot better than all of them in the first week of action. more »

Factoid: Wide receivers with rookie QBs
I've seen a couple of stories go by the last few days with coaches talking up young or unproven wide receivers. Most notably, Frank Reich has had good things to say about both rookie Jonathan Mingo and third-year veteran Terrace Marshall. Both will of course be working with a rookie quarterback, Bryce Young (pictured). Where should expectations be set? more »

Texans select QB Stroud with second pick, move up to take OLB Anderson Jr. third
The Houston Texans upgraded their quarterback room on Thursday night, selecting Ohio State signal-caller C.J. STROUD with the second overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Stroud was the second quarterback… More off the board after the Carolina Panthers took BRYCE YOUNG first. The Texans then made a surprise move up to the third draft slot and selected Alabama OLB WILL ANDERSON JR., widely viewed as the best defensive player in the draft. Less

Factoid: Will Levis
When the NFL Draft kicks off tonight, there's little consensus as to where Kentucky quarterback Will Levis will be selected. One wild rumor circulating this week has him going No. 1 to Carolina. No. 2 to Houston is possible. Another has him slipping out of the top 10 and being drafted by the Patriots. A polarizing prospect. more »

Minnesota poised to draft Hooker as QB of the future?
Four quarterbacks are widely expected to be drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, including BRYCE YOUNG (Alabama), C.J. STROUD (Ohio State), WILL LEVIS (Kentucky), and ANTHONY RICHARDSON… More (Florida). Young quarterback HENDON HOOKER is another signal-caller whose name is likely to come off the board sooner than later, and the Minnesota Vikings have been linked to him. The Vikings do not have a second-round pick this year, so they may need to draft Hooker in the first round if they think he could eventually take over for veteran KIRK COUSINS. Less
