Coach thinks TE Njoku will make big jump in second season

Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson expects tight end DAVID NJOKU to make a huge jump in his second season. Jackson said that Njoku is a very athletic tight end that can catch and run, adding that he will be one of the Browns playmakers this season.

Jameis Winston is talking up rookie tight end O.J. Howard. He thinks the team's first-round pick will be "amazing." The history, though, makes it a lot more likely that will happen in a future season -- not 2017.   more »

Factoid: Rookie tight ends

There’s some buzz with the three rookie tight ends selected in the first round – O.J. Howard, Evan Engram and David Njoku. This is the time of year where assistant coaches make comments about how ‘so-and-so is really standing out’ at practice, with those quotes than cycling through the various channels on the internet, strengthening the mistaken idea that any of them is likely to do much of anything this year.   more »

Trivia: June 5, 2017

Thirteen years after selecting Kellen Winslow, Cleveland selected David Njoku in the first round – two players from the same school playing the same position going to the same team in the first round. That’s happened a few times at various positions, but in one instance each at QB, RB and WR, the same NFL team has gone to the same school at the same position twice not only in the first round but with a top-5 overall pick. Around the NFL: Evan Engram

The Giants selected Evan Engram in the first round, making him the second tight end drafted (right after O.J. Howard, ahead of David Njoku). Engram weighs 234 pounds, so he seems more like a big wide receiver than a guy who can line up as a traditional, in-line tight end. But offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan disagrees.   more »
