Around the NFL: LeGarrette Blount

LeGarrette Blount should be the main running back for Philadelphia. The team has other backs, but he's definitely the most accomplished inside runner on the team, and he was out there on the first series in the exhibition opener (a touchdown drive). And it's a good situation for him. In Philadelphia, he goes from one of the best spots for a touchdown-scoring running back to another.   more »

Around the NFL: Philadelphia Eagles

It’s early, but the Eagles seem to be settling on their committee of running backs. And it doesn’t look like Wendell Smallwood will be a big part of it.  more »

Giants all-in on RB Perkins

With LEGARRETTE BLOUNT landing in Philadelphia as the last of the major free-agent running back options, it appears clear in New York that the Giants are indeed all-in on PAUL PERKINS.More The second-year back was recently declared as the starter and the team didn’t seriously pursue any of the available options in free agency. Factoid: LeGarrette Blount

I’m not crazy about the fit of LeGarrette Blount in Philadelphia. Rushing touchdowns, yes. The rest of the stuff, not so much.  more »

RB Blount lands with Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles and free-agent running back LEGARRETTE BLOUNT agreed to a one-year deal that will provide the team with a new power running back and goal-line option for 2017. Blount rushed for 18 touchdowns last season, compared to just 16 rushing touchdowns for the Eagles as a team.

Patriots to keep Blount?

The New England Patriots used a little-used clause to ensure that they receive some value for unsigned free agent LEGARRETTE BLOUNT, or possibly retain him at a bargain. It’s hard toMore imagine the Patriots retaining Blount with an already crowded backfield but there should be more clarity by the start of training camp, if not sooner. Less

Factoid: New England Patriots

I posted the Mike Gillislee blurb the other day, and apologies for double dipping. But I believe he’s going to score a lot of touchdowns. A great offense, and I think he’s going to be the back they feature around the goal line.   more »

Giants interested in Blount

While the free agent market hasn’t been particularly kind to running back LEGARRETTE BLOUNT, there appears to be a mutual interest between Blount and the New York Giants. It is possibleMore that the Giants could feature Blount as a power running back alongside the tandem of PAUL PERKINS and SHANE VEREEN. Fantasy owners stay tuned. Less

Factoid: New England Patriots

The Patriots pulled Mike Gillislee out of Buffalo, and that has a significant impact on two backfields in the AFC East. Two good backfields. The Bills put up huge rushing numbers last year – the 2nd-best rushing numbers (using standard fantasy scoring) in the last 20 years. And the Patriots crank out 17-plus rushing touchdowns every year.  more »

Trivia: April 25, 2017

The Patriots have signed Mike Gillislee, making it unlikely LeGarrette Blount will return to New England. That's unusual, given that Blount scored 18 touchdowns last year. Who was the last other player to score 16 touchdowns for a team, then play for a different franchise the following season? You'll want to think about a dozen years in the past. answer »

Trivia: March 3, 2017

Melvin Gordon last year scored all 10 of San Diego's rushing touchdown. And LeGarrette Blount in New England scored 18 of the Patriots' 19 rushing touchdowns (in the regular season). Who are the only other two active running backs that sometime in their career have scored over 90 percent of their teams' rushing touchdowns? answer »

Around the NFL: Free agency

It’s an underwhelming group of free agent running backs, in my opinion. I don’t see anybody that I think NFL teams will get excited about. If I were walking into a fantasy draft today, this is how I would rank them.  more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Patriots preview

I’m not ready yet to say the Patriots will win. Atlanta has the ability to trade punches with anybody (I’ll take a closer look at the Falcons tomorrow). But New England’s offense sure looks good. It should pile up plenty of yards and points in what should be one of the higher scoring Super Bowls. The over-under is set at 59 points, a total that’s been reached only three times in the last 20 years.   more »

Factoid: Goal-line rushing

The Patriots sure like using LeGarrette Blount around the goal line. He scored 13 rushing touchdowns inside the 5-yard line, the most of anybody in the last seven years. He also had 29 carries in that part of the field, tying for the most since 2010.  more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: New England Patriots

New England’s offense probably will score 3-4 TDs, and just 3 TDs looks more likely. Pittsburgh’s defense has been playing pretty well. It’s allowed only 19 TDs in its last 10 meaningful game. Only two opponents in there scored more than 2 TDs (the Cowboys, and at Buffalo). The Patriots have a great offense, of course, but they’re going without Rob Gronkowski, who’s caused major problems for the Steelers in the past (including two games with 3 TD catches).   more »
