Giants RB Barkley officially OUT for TNF

New York Giants star running back SAQUON BARKLEY is officially listed as out for tonight’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Barkley was diagnosed with a low ankle sprain following lastMore Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. While head coach Brian Daboll spent Tuesday telling anyone who would listen that Barkley is a fast healer, Wednesday’s injury report told a different story. Veteran running back MATT BREIDA is expected to start in place of Barkley, with third year back GARY BRIGHTWELL and rookie ERIC GRAY also in the mix in some capacity. Less

Giants RB Barkley has low ankle sprain

An MRI on New York Giants running back SAQUON BARKLEY’s injured ankle on Monday revealed that the star running back suffered a low ankle sprain toward the end of Sunday’s gameMore against the Arizona Cardinals. The timetable for Barkley’s return is three weeks, meaning fantasy owners will need to make alternate plans for the next few games. Before the injury, Barkley scored a rushing and a receiving touchdown as the Giants made a furious comeback to win a game that looked all but lost early on. Veteran backup MATT BREIDA will now lead the Giants backfield, with GARY BRIGHTWELL and rookie ERIC GRAY filling complimentary roles. Less

Giants add veteran RB as Barkley insurance

The New York Giants signed veteran running back MATT BREIDA earlier this week as insurance behind starting running back SAQUON BARKLEY, who has earned the “oft-injured” tag over the past coupleMore of seasons. Breida had minimal roles the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills but he provides depth behind Barkley. His addition is not expected to prevent the Giants from adding a running back in the middle or late rounds of the draft. Less

Bills sign RB Breida to one-year deal

The Buffalo Bills signed running back MATT BREIDA to a one-year contract late last week. Breida, 26, will add speed and depth to the Bills backfield. He will likely slot behindMore current Buffalo running backs DEVIN SINGLETARY and ZACK MOSS. Running back T.J. YELDON was the number three running back last season, but he is now expected to move on in free agency. Less

Factoid: Buffalo running backs

The Bills signed Matt Breida (pictured) yesterday. Breida had his moments for a couple of seasons with San Francisco, but he gradually fell out of favor. He was a total non-factor in Miami last year, and he'll likely provide similar value in Buffalo. Negative value, if you factor in what he'll do for the other running backs there.   more »

Breida misses another practice due to bad hammy

Miami Dolphins running back MATT BREIDA missed practice for the second consecutive day due to a hamstring injury. The Dolphins were expecting Breida to replace injured starter MYLES GASKIN (placed onMore injured reserve), but that plan may need to change. If Breida is not available for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, some combination of JORDAN HOWARD, PATRICK LAIRD, and SALVON AHMED would get the call. Less

Dolphins RB Gaskin to miss time with knee injury

Miami Dolphins running back MYLES GASKIN sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Gaskin is expected to miss the next few weeksMore due to the injury. Some combination of running backs MATT BREIDA, JORDAN HOWARD, and PATRICK LAIRD will now take over in the Dolphins backfield. Miami also added running back DEANDRE WASHINGTON on Tuesday via a trade with Kansas City, although he is not expected to have any fantasy value. Less

Around the NFL: Miami running backs

The Dolphins had the league's worst running game a year ago, which tends to happen when your offensive line is cheap and terrible and you trade your only decent running back during the season. They brought in two new veterans this offseason, Jordan Howard and Matt Breida, and those are the guys who should get most (all?) of the snaps in 2020. How might things shake out?  more »

Breida, Howard ready to “shock” the NFL in 2020

Miami Dolphins running back MATT BREIDA said recently that he and new teammate JORDAN HOWARD are going to shock a lot of people heading into the 2020 season. The two veteranMore running backs were discarded by their former teams but are expected to carry the rushing load in Miami. Considering that quarterback RYAN FITZPATRICK led the Dolphins in rushing with 243 yards last season, the bar is low. Less

Dolphins RB Breida declares himself the fastest player in the NFL

Miami running back MATT BREIDA said this week that there is nobody in the NFL as fast as him. Breida recently bought himself a Lamborghini, which he says matches his styleMore of play. While his speed and confidence are impressive, fantasy owners will not care unless yards and touchdowns are part of his 2020 season. Less

Factoid: Dolphins running backs

I kind of cringe whenever I see Jordan Howard selected in drafts. He's an ordinary talent, routinely outplayed by the other backs on the roster everywhere he's been, and he's going to a team that probably won't run the ball well, won't have many leads and will favor a committee. Otherwise, great pick.   more »

49ers RB Wilson signs tender

The San Francisco 49ers announced that free agent running back JEFF WILSON signed his one-year tender, which will keep him around for the upcoming 2020 season. Wilson saw limited action lastMore season, appearing in ten games, but he managed to contribute five total touchdowns during that time. Wilson has value as both a runner and a receiver, but he joins a crowded backfield that includes RAHEEM MOSTERT, TEVIN COLEMAN, MATT BREIDA, and JERICK MCKINNON. Less

49ers RB Breida signs one-year tender

San Francisco 49ers running back MATT BREIDA signed his one-year tender on Thursday, just a day before the deadline. Breida remains eligible for a trade during next week’s draft, which wouldMore not be an unexpected event. Breida was phased out of the offense last season after he struggled to hold onto the football. Less

Around the NFL: 49ers Backfield

San Francisco recently restructured Jerick McKinnon's contract. It's a polite way of saying he took a huge paycut to stay on the roster. McKinnon hasn't played a regular-season down in two years with the team, so no one should be expecting him to make any kind of impact this year, either.   more »

Dolphins acquire RB Breida from 49ers

The Miami Dolphins acquired veteran running back MATT BREIDA from the San Francisco 49ers in a draft day trade over the weekend. Breida, 25, fell out of favor last year inMore San Francisco with the development of fellow running back RAHEEM MOSTERT. Breida and JORDAN HOWARD will enter camp as the front-runners to be the Dolphins’ top two running backs. Less
