Around the NFL: Dolphins running backs

There's a story at ESPN suggesting that Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert is iffy for Week 1. This isn't terribly surprising to anyone who's followed Mostert's recent career. From the report it sounds like Mostert possibly had a setback with the knee injury he suffered early last season. It doesn't exactly leave Miami in the lurch, since the team has been signing more running backs than it can possibly roster.  more »

Around the NFL: Miami Ground Machine

The Dolphins traded for Tyreek Hill and will pair him with one of last season's breakout rookie receivers, Jaylen Waddle, to pass the ball all over the yard. Or will they? Their new head coach comes over from a San Francisco offense that generally emphasized the run, and they've been signing more running backs than they can possibly roster.  more »

Factoid: Three-back committees

Brian Flores says Miami will use all three of its running backs -- Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, Malcolm Brown. David Culley will likely do the same with Houston's backfield of Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram and David Johnson. Perhaps he'll even find some chances for Rex Burkhead; you don't want to leave that on the bench. Death to fantasy value.   more »

Factoid: Kalen Ballage

Waiver claims are due tonight in a lot of leagues, and no doubt running back-desperate fantasy franchises will be considering Kalen Ballage. And that's fair. Starting running backs can be hard to come by at this point in the season, and he should be Miami's starter the next four games. But expectations should be modest.   more »
