Updated dynasty rankings for wide receivers

Ranking wide receivers for dynasty leagues is trickier. You have to look at not only where players are right now, but where they might be five years from now – and who’ll be throwing to them.

With the current group of wide receivers, there are a bunch of very productive players who are in the their late 20s: Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen. But DK Metcalf, while not as proven, is putting up big numbers and is five years younger than those guys. And it looks like Metcalf will be catching passes from Russell Wilson for the foreseeable future. So if I were walking into a dynasty draft today, Metcalf would be the first receiver I would choose.

Michael Thomas, at this point in time, is the most intriguing question mark in the top 10. He’s proven he can catch a ton of balls. He averaged over 9 receptions per game last year. But he’s been hurt for most of this year, and there seems to be some kind of issue or dispute behind the scenes with Thomas and the Saints. They sat him down for a game after he punched a teammate at a practice.

Thomas is also working with a quarterback who’s in the last half season of his career. The offense might be noticeably different next year (though I will concede that Thomas was very productive in 2019 when they had Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback).

Keenan Allen is only a year older than Thomas and has been putting up some Thomas-like catch numbers for the Chargers. He’ll be working with Justin Herbert for the next bunch of years. So if I were drafting today, I would select Allen before Thomas.

On the rankings below, I’m assuming PPR scoring, and I’m working under the assumption that teams can keep players indefinitely.

With dynasty rankings, I hit a different position each Saturday, rotating between the four major positions. The final column shows where the player ranked when I last checked in with wide receivers four weeks ago.

A little feedback from a long time customer.

Our fantasy pool is entering its 25^th year and I have used multiple books and on-line tools over the years.

I have locked on to Fantasy Index as my go to for the last 5 years and have won the pool 3 of those years and finished no lower than 4^th.

I wanted to thank you for such an amazing product and your customer service. I ordered the wrong date for my update and called to correct the mistake. Your customer service person was very kind, helpful and took care of the issue immediately.

I have used your product for the past 18 years or so… Every now and then I will be tempted and look at what other magazines have to offer, quickly realizing no one comes close.

In addition to the magazine, I started buying the weekly updates years ago when my dad taught me a lesson. The draft came and dad was sitting in the 12 hole for his pick. He told me he felt very comfortable about who he was going to select but would not tell me who his prized gem was to be. I was doubtful. The pick? Priest Holmes (his first dynamite year). I remember telling my dad, "that is a decent pick but they plan to pull him at the goal line." Ever the teacher, dad explained he had purchased the Fantasy Football Index update and read Holmes would get the goal line carries. "Update?", I asked. That was 2002 and Holmes had 21 rushing TDs and Dad won the title! Lesson learned.

By the way, I have made the title game for the last 5 years in a row. Thanks for the detailed, hard work and an great product!
