Fantasy News: Coaching options are dwindling for Bill Belichick
Bill Belichick’s impressive resume as New England Patriots head coach for 24 seasons isn’t enough to land him any available positions among NFL teams. The Atlanta Falcons are the only team that interviewed him among the squads looking for a head coach. more »

Texans hire Caserio away from Patriots as next GM
The Houston Texans are hiring former New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio as their new General Manager. The Patriots reportedly blocked Caserio from interviewing for the position twice… More in the past three years, but it appears that the third time is the charm for the Texans. Caserio, 45, has been Bill Belichick’s right-hand man since 2008. His first assignment in Houston will be to hire a new coach to replace Bill O’Brien, who was fired as head coach and GM in October. Scheduletron: Patriots schedule
I saw a complaint yesterday about the Patriots benefitting most years from being in what tends to be one of the weakest divisions. While that might seem to be true, it’s simply not the case. more »

Factoid: Fitzmagic
When I started writing up the preview for Miami’s offense, my initial expectation was that they would certainly project to be this week’s lowest-scoring offense. They’re pretty terrible, after all, while New England’s defense has allowed only 3 points in back-to-back games (the Sunday nighter against the Steelers, and the Super Bowl against the Rams). Then I started looking at the numbers more closely. more »

Scheduletron: Strength of schedule
While many would like for Bill Belichick and 42-year-old Tom Brady to simply go away, that doesn’t look likely to happen soon. The Patriots still have one of the league’s best teams, and they’ll also benefit from playing one of the easiest schedules. more »

Belichick expects to remain as Patriots head coach
New England head coach Bill Belichick had no comment on a recent ESPN report detailing friction within the organization and added that it was “absolutely” his intention to return to the Patriots in 2018. It sounds like business as usual for the Patriots, with fantasy options in abundance once again.

Around the NFL: New England Patriots
With the Patriots, you get the impression they’re coached better than other teams. Seldom do you see them beat themselves – they don’t make the critical error at just the wrong time like so many other teams. more »

Factoid: New England Patriots
One of the ideas that gets kicked around (and I used it myself in the preview earlier in the week) is the theory that the Patriots do a better job of improving and developing their unheralded players. Especially on defense. The Patriots don’t have a star-studded group on that side of the ball, but they’re leading the league in scoring defense. more »
