49ers WR Samuel breaks foot

San Francisco wide receiver DEEBO SAMUEL underwent surgery after suffering a fracture in his left foot while working out with teammates late last week. The surgery reportedly went well and SamuelMore says he will be back and better than before in 10 weeks. Fellow wide receiver RICHIE JAMES JR. also suffered a fractured right wrist, as the 49ers are off to a rough start. Less

Around the NFL: Oh no, Deebo

The idea of a Super Bowl hangover is real. The only team in the last 25 years to return to a Super Bowl the year after losing it is the Patriots (following their upset loss to Philadelphia). That's a history the San Francisco 49ers are trying to buck. It's not off to a good start.   more »

Factoid: Hollywood Brown

John Harbaugh was talking up Hollywood Brown the other day, saying he’s looking forward to seeing what he can do now that he’s healthy and has been around for a year. Are the Ravens sitting on one of the season’s breakout receivers?  more »

Factoid: Kyle Shanahan

Deebo Samuel should show up on a lot of Fantasy Index reader teams this year. He appears higher in our rankings than that of most other experts or ADP suggests. He's a talented guy, and should be the No. 1 wideout in San Francisco's offense. Less certain is whether he'll score a lot of touchdowns.   more »

Factoid: Deebo Samuel

I like Deebo Samuel. I haven’t stacked a board yet, but I would guess he’ll be a guy who’ll be on a lot of my teams this year. I believe he’ll outperform his draft position.  more »

Factoid: Rookie receivers

It was a good year for rookie receivers. Three of them went for 900-plus yards, and three others also have very bright futures. Overall, a much deep group than what’s typically seen.   more »

Dynasty Leagues: Long-term WR rankings

When I look at the rookie receivers, I don’t see a standout player. I see a top tier of four players: Hollywood Brown, Terry McLaurin and the two Mississippi guys – DK Metcalf and A.J. Brown. If I were walking into a dynasty draft today, I would be torn between those guys.  more »

49ers bitten by injury bug

The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with several injuries heading into Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers. While there could be some game time decisions on tap, running backMore MATT BREIDA (ankle) and kicker ROBBIE GOULD (quad) did not practice this week and are doubtful for the game. Tight end GEORGE KITTLE (knee, ankle) and wide receivers EMMANUEL SANDERS (ribs) and DEEBO SAMUEL (shoulder) were all able to practice on a limited basis throughout the week – although they do carry some fantasy risk. Around the NFL: San Francisco 4077th

Working on the San Francisco write-up for the Weekly was tricky, and it made sense to push it back as far as possible. Maybe there'd be some helpful updates on player health if we waited long enough. But it was only today's practice report where anyone had a sense of just how bad it might be.   more »

Around the NFL: 49ers receivers

San Francisco's crowded running back room has probably got the most preseason ink, but it's a mess at wide receiver, too. Dante Pettis, Marquise Goodwin, Trent Taylor, Richie James, Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd are all in contention for roles, and most of them could wind up as the No. 2 -- or a whole lot lower.   more »
