Factoid: Rookie running backs

Running backs will not be coveted in the upcoming draft. None will be selected in the first round, and I’m not positive that one will even be chosen in the second. But if form holds, there will be multiple first-round running backs who will make an impact in the 2024 season.   more »

Andy Richardson: A Day of Football

I'm done picking against Kansas City. I guess I'm also short on having faith in Cinderella stories in general. We thought the Ravens would cruise on into the Super Bowl, and also that just maybe the Lions would keep their roll going. Lions rookies significantly contribute in Divisional Round win

Gone are the days when the Detroit Lions were lovable losers. Head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes have transformed the team’s culture by proclaiming grit above all else. That energy has rubbed off on their squad, especially their rookies.

Lions promote RB Knight to active roster

The Detroit Lions promoted running back ZONOVAN KNIGHT from the practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday. Starting running back DAVID MONTGOMERY suffered a thigh bruise in Sunday’s game againstMore the Seattle Seahawks and could miss this weekend’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Montgomery is currently listed as day-to-day. While rookie running back JAHMYR GIBBS is likely to take the lead role in the Lions backfield if Montgomery misses time, Knight and fellow running back CRAIG REYNOLDS could see a role as well. Less

Lions RB Montgomery could miss time with thigh bruise

Detroit Lions running back DAVID MONTGOMERY suffered a thigh bruise in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks and did not return to the game. Montgomery, the team’sMore leading rusher, said the injury could take “a couple weeks” to heal but he declined to comment further on the issue. Montgomery led the Lions with 67 yards rushing and scored his second touchdown in as many weeks before suffering the injury. If Montgomery misses time, rookie first-round pick JAHMYR GIBBS will likely have a more prominent role, starting with next week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Less

Lions RB Gibbs has great expectations for 2023

Detroit Lions rookie running back JAHMYR GIBBS said this week that it is “most definitely” possible for him to surpass 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving this season. While Gibbs’More aspirations are admirable, fantasy owners should note that San Francisco 49ers running back CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY was the only player to accomplish the feat last season. Additionally, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that he might ease Gibbs into action in Thursday night’s season opener against Kansas City. Campbell added that the team will be “smart” with Gibbs’ usage in his debut, with an eye toward the full season. Less
