Colts release veteran QB Foles

The Indianapolis Colts officially released veteran quarterback NICK FOLES late last week after the first year of a two-year deal he signed last spring. Foles was brought in by former headMore coach Frank Reich along with MATT RYAN, both of whom will play elsewhere, if at all, this season. With Foles out of the picture, the only quarterback remaining on the roster from the 2023 season is third-year passer SAM EHLINGER. Heading into the upcoming season, Ehlinger will likely battle for a roster spot behind fellow quarterbacks ANTHONY RICHARDSON and GARDNER MINSHEW. Less

Indianapolis QB Ryan interested in broadcasting career

Indianapolis quarterback MATT RYAN is still under contract with the team, but the expectation is that the Colts will release the veteran signal-caller in an effort to save money against theMore salary cap. Before owners tuck Ryan away at the end of fantasy benches heading into the upcoming season, it’s worth noting that Ryan is reportedly eyeing a career in broadcasting. At age 37, and coming off a season in which he struggled, the booth seems like a likely option for Ryan. Less

Andy Richardson: Thursday Night Recap

What percentage of NFL games in the last half century don't have any touchdowns? It's got to be a small number, and probably a lot of them were affected by crummy weather. Last night we had another one, and props to the defenses, but it seems to mostly be a case of two veteran transplant quarterbacks who left their best work in the past.   more »

Around the NFL: Indianapolis Colts

Colts shut out as Ryan era off to rough start

This isn’t the way fantasy owners envisioned the start to the season for the Indianapolis Colts. While an opening week tie against the Houston Texans at least yielded some fantasy production,More the same can’t be said for the Colts Week #2 shutout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. New quarterback MATT RYAN threw 3 interceptions and no touchdowns, while star running back JONATHAN TAYLOR did not fare much better. With games against Kansas City, Tennessee, and Denver on the horizon, fantasy owners are left hoping the Colts can somehow turn things around quickly. Less

Factoid: Indianapolis Colts

Two games in, Matt Ryan isn’t looking like much of an upgrade over Carson Wentz – or anybody else the Colts have trotted out at quarterback in recent years. Expectations that Indianapolis was almost a prohibitive favorite to win the AFC South are looking pretty silly nowadays.   more »

QBs Mariota, Ridder add dynamic element to Falcons offense

Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks MARCUS MARIOTA and DESMOND RIDDER combined for 82 yards on nine carries in Friday night’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions. After years of a stationary MATT RYANMore at quarterback, the Falcons offense could look significantly different this season. Fantasy owners, however, will need to decide which quarterback will lead the way this year. While Mariota is expected to start the season, the rookie Ridder looked impressive in his debut and could end up starting sooner than later if he continues to impress. Less

Factoid: Transplant quarterbacks

Six times in the last two years, a quarterback on a new team has finished with top-20 numbers, and it’s a safe bet that we’re going to have a least a couple of those guys again this season. There likely will be eight starting quarterbacks on opening day who finished last season with other teams.  more »
