With the Eagles having the league's best run defense, New England's offense will almost certainly emphasize the pass. That's covered in Part I of the preview. Now a look at the receivers who will be catching all of those balls. There are a number of possibilities.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Super Bowl LII Preview: New England Patriots (Part I)

The Patriots are trying to win their sixth Super Bowl, and strong chance they'll do it. They've got the better offense (if for no other reason than they've got a Hall of Fame quarterback), and their defense has performed better than its ranking for more than half a season. But it looks like it should be a competitive game, matched up with the regular season's best all-around team, and a below-average situation for their offense.   more »

Andy Richardson: A Day of Football

In some respects, we should have all seen it coming. I guess most of us knew the Patriots were going back to the Super Bowl, no shock there. But the Eagles weren't favored in either playoff game; the popular belief was that no Carson Wentz meant no Super Bowl. And that was really wrong.   more »

New England defense surprises on Thursday night

After struggling since the start of the 2017 season, the New England defense delivered an unexpected performance against Tampa Bay on Thursday night. While the Patriots still allowed 409 total yards, they were able to make key stops while holding the Bucs to just 14 points.

Around the NFL: Will the Patriots bounce back?

The Patriots got smacked around in the second half by Kansas City last night, which most of us really enjoyed. Doesn't happen to New England very often -- ever, really -- especially at home. Are we seeing the end of the Belichick-Brady era?  more »

Around the NFL: New England Patriots

With the Patriots, you get the impression they’re coached better than other teams. Seldom do you see them beat themselves – they don’t make the critical error at just the wrong time like so many other teams.   more »

24 Hours 'Til Sunday: Snapshot preview of the Super Bowl

So tomorrow is the Super Bowl, and for the majority of us who aren't diehard Patriots or Falcons fans, we're just hoping for a good game. The good news is that this isn't a game featuring some team that lucked its way in and is going to get blown away, or an absolute juggernaut against which no team can compete. Two really good teams, and a great chance it will be a very enjoyable game.   more »

Factoid: Patriots Defense

You can't control who you play, so it's not fair to dock a team for their schedule. But I'm hearing the Falcons be dismissed in Super Bowl LI because of "Bill Belihick having two weeks to prepare" and so forth, and I'm not buying. There's nothing special about New England's defense, and it definitely hasn't faced an offense anything close to Atlanta's.   more »

LeGarrette Blount isn’t practicing today. He’s ill. He also didn’t practice yesterday. With the Patriots kicking off in two days, it’s looking likely that Blount won’t be used in a heavy-duty role.  more »
