Factoid: Bijan Robinson

In Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, the Falcons have one of the best one-two punches at tailback in the league. But I’m thinking the running game there will be dramatically scaled back.   more »

Factoid: Rookie running backs

The season is upon us, and many eyes on Atlanta, with a rare running back picked in the top 10. But will Bijan Robinson be an instant-impact star? Or somewhat of a disappointment?   more »

Around the NFL: Late-round running backs

The Bengals play the Falcons tonight, and the running back usage (for both teams) is one interesting thing to watch. For Atlanta, perhaps we'll get a sense of how their talented backfield might play out. For Cincinnati, they need to settle on a Joe Mixon backup.   more »

Factoid: Sophomore Slump?

You hear a lot about the idea of a sophomore slump -- productive rookies falling off a year later. But how common is it? I took a look at how running backs have fared this century. Later in the week I'll do the same with wide receivers.   more »

Factoid: Kenneth Walker

We've discussed (argued about) Kenneth Walker some here in recent weeks. He had a productive rookie season, but Seattle drafted Zach Charbonnet in the second round. A wide range of possibilities for Seattle's backfield exists, including a featured Walker, a one-two punch, or Charbonnet being better.   more »

Factoid: Bijan Robinson

The selection of Bijan Robinson with the eighth pick of the draft surprised the heck out of me. Teams don’t like to select running backs that early, and it doesn’t seem like a position of need for the Falcons.   more »

QB Ridder expects Falcons offense to be “explosive” in 2023

Atlanta Falcons quarterback DESMOND RIDDER said this week that his supporting cast will make his job “a lot easier” this season, adding that he thinks the offense is “gonna be prettyMore explosive” in 2023. With a young core of wide receiver DRAKE LONDON, tight end KYLE PITTS, and running backs BIJAN ROBINSON and TYLER ALLGEIER, Ridder appears to have no shortage of talent at his disposal. If the Falcons offense proves to be what Ridder thinks it can be, the Falcons could have a good shot at rising to the top of a wide open division. Less

Falcons to use rookie RB Robinson “everywhere”

Atlanta Falcons rookie running back BIJAN ROBINSON is excited that head coach Arthur Smith sees him as more than a running back. Robinson said recently that Smith plans to use himMore “everywhere, from receiver to running back”. Smith added that he and fellow running back TYLER ALLGEIER, who ran for 1,000 yards as a rookie last season, will “both have fun in that offense”. If Robinson and Smith are to be believed, a big fantasy season could be on the horizon in Atlanta this year. Less

Factoid: Atlanta Falcons

I was surprised to see the Falcons select Bijan Robinson. I didn’t see running back as a big need for them, with Tyler Allgeier rushing for 1,035 yards, a team record for a rookie. They’ve also gotten some good production out of Cordarrelle Patterson the last two years.   more »

Falcons young core finishes strong

While the Atlanta Falcons will sit out the 2022 NFL playoffs, the team looks poised for greater things moving forward in both fantasy football and the real version. Rookie quarterback DESMONDMore RIDDER threw his first 2 NFL touchdown passes in Sunday’s season finale while fellow rookie TYLER ALLGEIER finished the season with the most rushing yards by a rookie running back in franchise history. Wide receiver DRAKE LONDON also broke KYLE PITTS’ record for most receptions by a rookie. Less

Falcons place RB Patterson on injured reserve

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith announced on Monday that the team has placed starting running back CORDARRELLE PATTERSON on injured reserve. The veteran running back had been dealing with aMore knee injury prior to Sunday’s win over the Cleveland Browns, and reportedly had a minor procedure Monday morning. With the move to IR, Patterson will miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return. In his absence, the Falcons are expected to turn to fellow running backs CALEB HUNTLEY and TYLER ALLGEIER to handle backfield duties in the weeks ahead. Less

Falcons turn to running game in win vs. Browns

The Atlanta Falcons used a three-headed rushing attack in Sunday’s win against the Cleveland Browns. Veteran running back CORDARRELLE PATTERSON and youngster CALEB HUNTLEY each rushed for a touchdown, while rookieMore running back TYLER ALLGEIER led the team in rushing with 84 yards on just ten carries. The focus on the running game left KYLE PITTS owners disappointed once again, as the tight end caught just one pass for 25 yards. Less
