Draftniks plan, and God laughs. Quarterbacks were selected with three of the first four picks in the draft, but the Raiders found a guy in the fourth round who was a lot better than all of them in the first week of action. more »

Factoid: Wide receivers with rookie QBs
I've seen a couple of stories go by the last few days with coaches talking up young or unproven wide receivers. Most notably, Frank Reich has had good things to say about both rookie Jonathan Mingo and third-year veteran Terrace Marshall. Both will of course be working with a rookie quarterback, Bryce Young (pictured). Where should expectations be set? more »

Panthers QB Dalton still thinks he’s a starter
Veteran quarterback ANDY DALTON signed with the Carolina Panthers just days after they acquired the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. With the team expected to select its quarterback… More of the future, Dalton knew he would likely be mentoring a rookie franchise quarterback. Dalton will indeed backup rookie quarterback BRYCE YOUNG to start the season, but he said recently that he still views himself as a starter in the league and he expects to play until that is no longer the case. Factoid: Rookie quarterbacks
Anthony Richardson hardly played at Florida, with only 13 starts. Is it realistic to expect him to step in and put up viable numbers anytime soon? Quarterback is, after all, the most complex position in sports. more »

Factoid: Bryce Young
With Bryce Young, I like that he’s shown he can play well against strong opposition. Almost all quarterbacks drafted in the first round have put up pinball numbers in college, but Young has done it in big games against the best defenses in the SEC – the most NFL-like level of competition. more »
Panthers QB Young takes first team snaps
Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback BRYCE YOUNG took the first snaps at quarterback during practice earlier this week, which was a shift from veteran ANDY DALTON being the first man up at… More previous practices. Head coach Frank Reich said that he and GM Scott Fitterer “earmarked” this week as the time to bump Young up in the rotation. With Young being the first overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, it’s likely that he will stay atop the Panthers depth chart heading into the season opener. Less

Panthers rookie QB Young in “complete command” at minicamp
Carolina Panthers quarterback BRYCE YOUNG got off to a great start at the team’s three-day rookie camp, with head coach Frank Reich saying that “he did everything right”. While he was… More facing mostly undrafted and tryout players, Young showed the footwork, decision-making and processing that made his size a nonfactor the past two seasons at Alabama. The goal is to have Young ready to be the starter when the Panthers open the season against the Atlanta Falcons. For now, he’s listed as the backup to veteran ANDY DALTON with no timetable for being elevated to the top spot. Less

The NFL Draft is in the books, with Alabama quarterback Bryce Young the top pick. Just a month ago, many thought Carolina would be selecting C.J. Stroud, but apparently the Panthers knew who they wanted all along. more »

Texans select QB Stroud with second pick, move up to take OLB Anderson Jr. third
The Houston Texans upgraded their quarterback room on Thursday night, selecting Ohio State signal-caller C.J. STROUD with the second overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Stroud was the second quarterback… More off the board after the Carolina Panthers took BRYCE YOUNG first. The Texans then made a surprise move up to the third draft slot and selected Alabama OLB WILL ANDERSON JR., widely viewed as the best defensive player in the draft. Less

Panthers select QB Young with top overall pick
The Carolina Panthers ended weeks of speculation on Thursday night with the selection of Alabama’s BRYCE YOUNG with the top overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Young set Alabama single-season… More marks for passing yards and touchdowns in 2021 and finished his career second in those categories in school history despite starting for just two seasons. While there are some concerns about his size, the Panthers didn’t hesitate to make Young the top pick. Less

Factoid: Will Levis
When the NFL Draft kicks off tonight, there's little consensus as to where Kentucky quarterback Will Levis will be selected. One wild rumor circulating this week has him going No. 1 to Carolina. No. 2 to Houston is possible. Another has him slipping out of the top 10 and being drafted by the Patriots. A polarizing prospect. more »

Panthers GM says team remains undecided on top overall pick
Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer insisted this week that the team has yet to decide on the top overall selection in this month’s NFL Draft. Coaches and GM’s say a… More lot of things, but if Fitterer is to be believed, fantasy owners may have to wait until draft night to learn who the top pick will be. A popular belief is that the Panthers have zeroed in on Alabama quarterback BRYCE YOUNG, a belief heightened by Young's decision to cancel the rest of his pre-draft visits earlier this week. Less
