Factoid: Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have one of the trickier backfields to grade. There will be multiple backs involved, and the production isn’t going to be as good as last year.   more »

Factoid: Faster running backs

Yesterday I ran an article showing how the faster wide receivers (based on combine 40 times) have fared in their careers. Here's the companion piece to that, for running backs. As a whole (with some speed adjustment), they've done a lot better.   more »

Factoid: Raheem Mostert

That was a pretty remarkable season put together by Raheem Mostert. At age 31, he came up with 21 touchdowns. But I don’t think I’ll have much interest in even thinking about selecting him before the late rounds in drafts next summer.  more »

Factoid: Frigid weather

They’ll be kicking off in two days in Arrowhead, and the weather forecast continues to indicate conditions will be brutal, with an expected daytime high of 8 degrees. How might that affect the offenses of those teams?  more »

Dynasty Leagues: Pint-sized playmakers

Keaton Mitchell keeps busting loose for long runs. At what point do we start thinking of this guy as pretty similar to Jahmyr Gibbs and DeVon Achane? They’re all small, and they’re all really explosive.   more »

Factoid: Jaleel McLaughlin

Not a lot has gone right in Denver, but how about Jaleel McLaughlin? He’s averaging 7.3 yards per carry, and he’s scored 3 touchdowns. I will be interested in getting another look at him tonight.   more »

Around the NFL: Miami running backs

The Dolphins have placed DeVon Achane on IR with a knee injury, a blow to those who have him (and a boon for those yet to face him). He'll miss at least the next four games. But Miami itself should be fine.   more »

Dynasty Leagues: Devon Achane

Devon Achane screamed up rookie draft boards after being selected in the third round by the Dolphins. At the peak, his ADP was 1.08 (it has since settled to 1.12). Though he was always a well-regarded prospect, he was never going to go in the middle of the first before he became a Dolphin. I get it, Miami’s a flashy spot for a running back – especially a speedster like Achane – but is Achane really worth a first-round pick? I don’t think so.   more »

Around the NFL: Mid-round running backs

A story over the weekend that Titans' 2022 fourth-round running back Hassan Haskins has been arrested on domestic violence charges. We'll see how that shakes out, but Tennessee had already hedged its bets on that pick by selecting Tyjae Spears in the third round this year. It got me wondering on the hit rate for running backs drafted in those rounds.   more »

Fantasy News: Rookie running backs

Four running backs were selected in the third round, and that’s a tricky area of the draft. Players selected in that area aren’t guaranteed to do much of anything. Trey Sermon and Tyrion Davis-Price, as recent examples, were picked in that round. But on the other hand, Alvin Kamara and Kareem Hunt were third-round picks.   more »

Factoid: Smaller running backs

One of the best stories from the NFL Draft was the Cowboys selecting Deuce Vaughn in the sixth round. His father works as a scout for the team, and he made the phone call ("Do you want to come to work with me next week?"). Vaughn put up big numbers at Kansas State but is tiny -- just 5-foot-5 and 179 pounds.   more »
