Factoid: Rookie receivers
I think I need to be more open to drafting rookie wide receivers earlier. Every year we’re seeing about 3 finish with top-30 numbers. more »

Seahawks WR Smith-Njigba to start season on active roster
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA had surgery to repair a fractured wrist, but the team has been optimistic and the rookie wideout will reportedly start the season on the active… More roster and not on injured reserve. While his status for Week #1 is still unknown, the initial estimate of Smith-Njigba missing 3-4 weeks seems to align with the decision to keep him on the active roster to start the season. He is expected to work as the No. 3 receiver on the depth chart behind starters DK METCALF and TYLER LOCKETT. Less

Factoid: Catch a rising star
With the 2008 numbers in front of me, I see that DeSean Jackson saw 28 targets in August that year, catching 16 passes for 189 yards. It underscores that teams (other than the Baltimore Ravens) aren’t as willing to risk putting their key players on the field for preseason games. more »

Seahawks rookie WR Smith-Njigba headed for wrist surgery
Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA broke a bone in his wrist in Saturday night’s preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys and was scheduled for surgery on Tuesday to repair… More the injury. While Smith-Njigba reportedly could still be ready for the regular season opener on September 10th against the Los Angeles Rams, the surgery will determine how much time he will miss. Smith-Njigba, a first round pick, has been one of the team’s standout players in training camp and is expected to be a reliable third receiver alongside veterans DK METCALF and TYLER LOCKETT. Less

Factoid: Rookie receivers
I am not a fan of the rookie receivers. I think it’s going to be a down year for them. But that said, they’re tending to do more earlier than they have in the past. more »

Factoid: Three's a crowd
I am a Jaxon Smith-Njigba fan. I think he’s the best of the rookie receivers. If I’m walking into a dynasty draft, he would be the first rookie wide receiver I would draft, and it wouldn’t even be close. (I think I’d rather have him than all three of the other wide receivers who went in the first round.) more »

Factoid: Geno Smith
I like the look of Geno Smith. He was one of the biggest surprises of last season, and I don’t think it was a fluke. I think he’s for real, and I would be very interested in drafting him to be the second quarterback on my team (in a typical 12-team format). more »

Factoid: First-round wideouts
Minnesota first-rounder Jordan Addison is missing time at offseason training activities due to an undisclosed minor injury. This is not a big deal; it's still May, for a few more hours. But it seems as good a time as any to point out that a rookie impact can't be taken for granted. more »

Factoid: Rookie WRs
Rookie receivers have been on the upswing in recent years. They’ve been able to become notable contributors earlier, with guys like JaMarr Chase and Justin Jefferson leading the way. But I don’t see one of those guys this year. more »

Factoid: First-round wideouts
The top-end players at wide receiver weren't viewed as favorably as in other recent years. A year ago, for example, six wide receivers were selected in the top 18 picks, with three going at 10-11-12. Last night the first wideout, Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba (pictured), barely snuck into the top 20. more »

Seahawks draft Smith-Njigba, first WR taken in 2023 NFL Draft
The Seattle Seahawks made Ohio State wide receiver JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA the first wideout selected on Thursday night with the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Smith-Njigba had a dynamic… More 2021 season before playing just three games in 2022 because of a hamstring injury. The pick started a run at the wide receiver position with Smith-Njigba being immediately followed by fellow wideouts QUENTIN JOHNSTON (Los Angeles Chargers), ZAY FLOWERS (Baltimore Ravens), and JORDAN ADDISON (Minnesota Vikings). The NFL announced on Thursday that seventeen prospects, including four quarterbacks, will attend the 2023 NFL draft. The four quarterbacks, Kentucky’s WILL LEVIS, Florida’s ANTHONY RICHARDSON, Ohio State’s C.J. STROUD, and… More Alabama’s BRYCE YOUNG, are all expected to be selected in the first round. Other names of note to fantasy owners include running back BIJAN ROBINSON (Texas) and wide receivers JORDAN ADDISON (USC), ZAY FLOWERS (Boston College), and JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA (Ohio State). Less

Factoid: Rookie WRs
It has been suggested a couple of times recently that rookie receivers are on the rise. I saw it in the comments a few days ago, and Andy posted something about a month or so ago. But is that actually true? When you select a rookie receiver today, do you (in general) have a higher probability of success than you would have 10, 20 or 30 years ago? more »
