Around the NFL: Desmond Ridder

Panthers QB Walker to start vs. Bucs

Carolina Panthers quarterback PJ Walker will start consecutive games for the first time in his NFL career in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sam Darnold’s high ankle sprain, "ligamentMore damage" in Baker Mayfield’s ankle, and Matt Corral’s season-ending Lisfranc injury, left Walker as the last man standing for the Panthers. Fantasy owners likely have better options than the Panthers this weekend. Less

Mayfield, Darnold to compete for starting gig

Carolina Panthers GM Scott Fitterer said this week that there will be an “open competition” at quarterback heading into the upcoming season. WALKER and rookie MATT CORRAL can also be thrown into the discussion, although neither is expected to be seriously considered. While the Panthers will have to start one of these guys in 2022, your fantasy team will likely have better options. Less

Factoid: Third-round quarterbacks

Three quarterbacks were selected in the third round back in April, and early reports have been good and bad. With Atlanta's Desmond Ridder, it sounds like he might push to start right away. With Malik Willis (Tennessee) and Matt Corral (Carolina), early indications have been nothing of the sort.   more »

Factoid: Later-round quarterbacks

A host of quarterback prospects got dissed at the draft, with Malik Willis, Matt Corral and Desmond Ridder all falling to the third round. That in itself is a pretty strong indication that those guys aren’t going to make much of an impact.  more »

Around the NFL: Third-round quarterbacks

Three of the coveted quarterback prospects finally came off the board in the third round, and I like them a lot more in that range than I did in the first. The expectations and time-lines look more palatable.   more »

Factoid: Non-1st Round Quarterbacks

Recently I posted an item showing the track record of quarterbacks selected in the first round of NFL drafts. It's where most of the league's starters (good and bad) come from. Now here are the best seasons turned in by quarterbacks drafted outside the first round -- if drafted at all.   more »

Factoid: First-round quarterbacks

A story in the Charlotte Observer over the weekend said that Carolina has first-round grades on three college quarterbacks: Malik Willis (pictured), Kenny Pickett and Matt Corral.
