QB Ridder expects Falcons offense to be “explosive” in 2023

Atlanta Falcons quarterback DESMOND RIDDER said this week that his supporting cast will make his job “a lot easier” this season, adding that he thinks the offense is “gonna be prettyMore explosive” in 2023. With a young core of wide receiver DRAKE LONDON, tight end KYLE PITTS, and running backs BIJAN ROBINSON and TYLER ALLGEIER, Ridder appears to have no shortage of talent at his disposal. If the Falcons offense proves to be what Ridder thinks it can be, the Falcons could have a good shot at rising to the top of a wide open division. Less

Falcons to use rookie RB Robinson “everywhere”

Atlanta Falcons rookie running back BIJAN ROBINSON is excited that head coach Arthur Smith sees him as more than a running back. Robinson said recently that Smith plans to use himMore “everywhere, from receiver to running back”. Smith added that he and fellow running back TYLER ALLGEIER, who ran for 1,000 yards as a rookie last season, will “both have fun in that offense”. If Robinson and Smith are to be believed, a big fantasy season could be on the horizon in Atlanta this year. Less

Scheduletron: Falcons rising?

Post draft, we can start identifying some of the teams and offenses that we feel will outperform expectations. The Falcons, I think, look like one of them. They’ve been loading up on talent, and they’re in the right division in the right conference.   more »

Factoid: Speed kills

I am a fan of the 40. Especially the electronically-timed version at the combine. It allows for an apples-to-apples comparison of players from different years.   more »

Factoid: Atlanta Falcons

I was surprised to see the Falcons select Bijan Robinson. I didn’t see running back as a big need for them, with Tyler Allgeier rushing for 1,035 yards, a team record for a rookie. They’ve also gotten some good production out of Cordarrelle Patterson the last two years.   more »

Around the NFL: Running back landing spots

The NFL Draft is a fun time for NFL and fantasy fans, and this year is no exception. The first two days saw a lot of talent at wide receiver, tight end, quarterback and running back come off the board. But if we're being honest, most of the running backs could have landed in more desirable spots.   more »

Falcons make RB Robinson top-ten draft pick

The Atlanta Falcons raised eyebrows on Thursday night, selecting Texas running back BIJAN ROBINSON with the eighth pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. Robinson was considered the bestMore running back in the draft and a certain top-five talent, but he was not considered by most to be a top-ten pick. Time will tell, but some analysts have compared Robinson to New York Giants star running back SAQUON BARKLEY. Less

Around the NFL: Los Angeles Chargers

I will be interested to see what the Chargers do at running back during the draft. Do they trade Austin Ekeler? And would they consider selecting Bijan Robinson?   more »

Factoid: First-round running backs

Earlier this week Ian posted an article about Bijan Robinson, examining the odds of him being the best running back in the 2023 NFL Draft (he'll almost certainly be the first one selected, and possibly the only first-round pick). In the comments, a reader asked what percentage of recent first-round running backs have busted. So I took a look.   more »

Ian Allan: Bijan Robinson

I don’t get it with Bijan Robinson. I’m on board with him being the most promising rookie (for fantasy purposes), but I don’t understand why he’s being described a running back talent who only comes long once every few years.   more »

Factoid: Rookie running backs

It's considered a deep draft class for running backs, but reasonable people can differ over exactly what that means. Are there a lot of really talented backs, or just an unusually large number of decent backs who could become serviceable NFL starters? From a fantasy perspective, either would be nice.   more »

Factoid: Jahmyr Gibbs

The running backs performed at the combine yesterday, always an exciting time for fantasy coaches. There are a variety of athletic drills, but people tend to take the most interest in the 40-yard-dash. That's not necessarily a predictor of NFL success, but it can impact where these guys are drafted. Some interesting results this year.   more »
