Around the NFL: Darnell Mooney

Darnell Mooney's second season was cut short by an ankle injury, but he says he'll be ready to roll for training camp. The primary reservations aren't about Mooney's health, though, but the offense around him.   more »

Bears add TE Tonyan, RB Foreman

The Chicago Bears are adding former Green Bay Packers tight end ROBERT TONYAN and former Carolina Panthers running back D’ONTA FOREMAN on one-year deals. Tonyan joins a tight end depth chartMore led by COLE KMET, who had 544 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns last season. Factoid: Cole Kmet

How high should everyone be on Cole Kmet? On the one hand, despite playing in a lesser passing game, he caught 60 passes last season -- only 11 tight ends caught more. On the other hand, he was absolutely dismal in terms of scoring touchdowns.   more »

Around the NFL: Cole Kmet

It's difficult to get too high on the Bears offense, with a developing young quarterback, suspect offensive line and sketchy group of pass catchers. But somebody is going to have to catch the occasional pass behind No. 1 Darnell Mooney, and Cole Kmet looks as likely to be the 2nd option as anyone else.   more »

Around the NFL: Bearly fielding a team

There can be some criticism of the Bears' third-round investment in Velus Jones (pictured). Jones spent six years in college, primarily playing special teams for four years at Southern Cal before transferring to Tennessee for two more seasons and playing wide receiver. Yesterday was his 25th birthday, kind of ancient for a rookie.  more »

Factoid: Low-scoring tight ends

I find Kyle Pitts and Cole Kmet to be interesting tight ends. Both caught a ton of passes last year, but with only one touchdown between them. What are the chances of them again being lightly used in the red zone in 2022?   more »

Dynasty Leagues: Long-term TE rankings

The decision making gets more difficult in dynasty leagues, where you need to measure not only what a player’s doing this year, but what he might be a few seasons down the road. And it’s particularly tricky at tight end, where some of the best options are in the later stages of the career.  more »

Bears youth on display during minicamp

Several young offensive players have looked good thus far during the Chicago Bears OTAs and minicamp, including rookie quarterback JUSTIN FIELDS and second-year guys DARNELL MOONEY (WR) and COLE KMET (TE).More While Fields is expected to start the season behind veteran ANDY DALTON, Mooney’s role is expected to expand this season. He appears to be the clear second wideout behind ALLEN ROBINSON. Kmet is also expected to have an increased role in the offense this season. Less

Around the NFL: Adam Trautman

The Saints released Jared Cook and Josh Hill yesterday. Neither move was unexpected, but it firms up last year's third-rounder Adam Trautman as the team's top tight end at this early stage of the offseason. The only other players at the position on the roster are undrafted free agents Garrett Griffin (3 NFL catches in five seasons) and Ethan Wolf.  more »
