Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Rankings

Over the course of this week, we've previewed the four teams playing on Sunday. Now it's time to see how the ranking shake out. There are some injury concerns, especially with the 49ers backfield.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: Kansas City

Patrick Mahomes was literally hopping around the huddle after injuring his ankle last week, but it appears he's avoided major injury. He was able to return to that game, and is practicing fully this week. As a result, the line has swung back in favor of Kansas City (-1). It's essentially a pick em.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: Cincinnati

While the NFC game features arguably the league's two best defenses, the AFC game is a little different. It also features a pair of top-10 offenses, just like the NFL has encouraged, but both defenses will give up production at times. The over-under of 47 is just a little higher than in the NFC game (currently 45.5), but the gap would be wider if both quarterbacks were fully healthy.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: Philadelphia

We're taking a look at the four Championship Game teams this week; San Francisco yesterday, Philadelphia today. The Eagles are only slight favorites (2.5 points), and it's definitely a game that could go either way.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: San Francisco

Fantasy Index Weekly is done for the season, but we'll preview the final three games here at the website anyway. Up first is the NFC Championship game, with San Francisco traveling to Philadelphia. I'll look at the 49ers today, the other three teams over the next couple of days, and rank all the players from the teams by the end of the week.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Rankings

Over the course of the week we've previewed all four teams; now it's time to look at how the rankings shake out. It looks like the four best non-quarterbacks will be wide receivers, which makes sense -- four of the league's very best players at the position are playing on Sunday.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Rankings

Over the course of the week we've posted previews of each of the four teams playing this weekend. Now to pour all the team expectations into the hopper and see what the expectations yield in terms of player rankings. Looks like the difference makers are at quarterback and wideout, as you might expect.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: Green Bay

The Packers look like the weekend's biggest favorite. They stormed through the regular season, playing basically one bad game, and handled the Rams pretty easily last week. They're at home playing the NFC's 5th seed (the AFC game is No. 1 versus No. 2). The only ding is that they're facing the team that beat them soundly back in Week 6, plus that Tom Brady guy.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: Tampa Bay

In Week 6, the Buccaneers crushed the Packers 38-10 in Tampa Bay. The Packers actually had the early advantage, scoring on their first two drives to take a 10-0 lead, while the Bucs punted the first two times they had the ball. But from there on it was all Tampa Bay, with the Bucs scoring on a defensive touchdown and also the next four times their offense had the ball. It was Green Bay's worst game of the season.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Game Preview: Kansas City

Kansas City won the Week 6 meeting in Buffalo by a 26-17 score. It was a highly unusual game for the offense, the only game all year when it had more yards rushing (245) than passing (225). The season-long numbers were dramatically different (313 yards passing and 112 yards rushing). But that earlier encounter raises the possibility that Kansas City works the run more than usual. Either way, probably 3-4 touchdowns (the numbers suggest just over 3).   more »

Around the NFL: Sunday morning injury updates

It's the morning of the games where we find out which teams we'll learn way too much about over the next two, lengthy weeks. And the injury reports are coming in, which promise an additional player in New England's backfield, and no apparent concerns for the key player on each AFC team.   more »

24 Hours 'Til Sunday: Snapshot previews of the championship games

I wrote the Fantasy Index Weekly style previews during the week, so most have a pretty good idea of what I'm expecting from these games. But I'm wrong sometimes, and frankly have not done a stellar job with these playoff games (although would look a lot better but for that miracle play against the Saints last week). Would be sitting in the catbird's seat if Brees, Kamara and Thomas were still playing.   more »

Fantasy Index Weekly: Championship Defenses

Defenses often win championships, but there are no elite defenses left in the NFL playoffs. No elite fantasy defenses, either, which make it a week to allot the smallest portion of one's budget, or a lower draft pick, to select one.   more »
