The AFC West has become a contested race, with Kansas City running out of steam and the Chargers surging. Both teams potentially could benefit from easy schedules down the stretch. (Best to emphasize “potentially” because Los Angeles has frittered away plenty of games this year, while Kansas City has been unable to take advantage of lesser opponents in recent weeks.)   more »

Teams are jockeying for playoff spots, and schedule should play a role in who wins (and who puts up big numbers) in the closing weeks. Some teams will play much easier closing schedules than others.   more »

Looking at the remaining schedules, three teams pop out. Jacksonville, Kansas City and Baltimore. I think all three of those are going to benefit from playing easy schedules the rest of the way.  more »

At this time of the year, it makes sense to pay a lot more attention to strength of schedule. Now we’ve got a pretty good idea of what offenses are all about, but we also know a lot more about defenses – not what they did way back in 2016, but what they’re doing right now. And schedule says a lot about teams like the Jaguars, Lions and Rams.   more »

Scheduletron: Revised strength of schedule

The Raiders project to play the league’s hardest schedule, with opponents allowing only 21.4 points per game on average. But I’m skeptical. Playing around with the numbers, I’m more inclined to believe Oakland will have one of the easier schedules.   more »

Week 10 is in the books, so let me offer a re-calibrated look at Strength of Schedule. At this point in the year, better to look at the here and now, rather than stuff way down the road, so I’m looking at the average totals for the next four games for each team. (For most teams, this is Weeks 11-14; for the few with a bye left, it’s Weeks 11-15).   more »
